Edited by: hall monitor on 03/08/2008 13:14:48 I mean I thought I was in for a real treat. Instead I got a book geared to maybe 8th grade level. Poor writing skills. If there was no EVE, it would have sold 0 copies. I'm being very honest about this. Read a good SciFi book like something by Heinlein...then read this garbage and you'll see. Thanks for hyping it up when in fact it's a horrible waste of time kiddie book.

Wait a minute now LOL1 You're saying that I'm not doing any better because there's "balls in my mouth?" ROFLMAO! What do balls in one's mouth have to do with this conversation. I think you meant to post in the "filthy potty mouth on 10 year old" section. Thanks!

However, to those who care: I must say that I'm into the book myself and am enjoying it.
Nope. Not a troll. Stop accusing people of being trolls. I could suggest that you have a reading level of a 10 year old but I'm not into personal attacks like you.
Thanks! Love - Hall Monitor

Why is an honest critique; trolling? Just because we disagree does not mean I'm trolling.
Thanks!

Just like your posts then?
No. I didn't write a book about a game and market it as good reading when in fact it was a ploy to take people's money IMHO. I want my money back and feel I was mislead.

No I'm not going to get specific. Also it is inherently obvious that my comments are just my opinion. I will say that like bad wine, poor writing is obvious but again; IMHO.

Originally by: Streetrip Edited by: Streetrip on 03/08/2008 14:14:59 I've read through the book twice and nothing short of pure win. Not afraid to step beyond any boundaries and is just pure masterful. This book should have come with a high age rating like for 18+ only, not because it's lewd in any way, but because if you're younger then you're going to go through life being continually disappointed by never reading anything that quite matches up to it.
In itself another plus is because it's EVE based you can even play the universe it's in. As great as Heinlein was, that starship troopers game was an epic fail. (The book was a good read though)
OK. As a book specifically about a game I guess I must concede on that point. Perhaps I should have been more attentive to the type of book I was interested in. In no way do I wish to denigrate the intelligence of people who bought and read it and I could be completely wrong on all of my opinions. There does that satisfy those accusing me of trolling?

Originally by: Stitcher Empyrean Age is not the best-written scifi novel I've ever encountered, granted - that honour goes to Dan Simmons' "Hyperion" - but I still think it's pretty good.
You want BAD scifi writing, go check out "The Ship who Sang" - great setting, but the writing quality of the book was terrible, and only picked up later in the series when McCaffrey finally started bringing in co-authors. Or the "Split Infinity" series by Piers Anthony.
Personally, I rate Empyrean Age alongside Kevin J. Anderson's "The Saga of the Seven Suns" for writing quality, or the "Last Chancers" trilogy by Gav Thorpe. Not on top of the heap by any stretch of the imagination, but well above halfway up and a long, LONG way from being at the bottom.
I certainly enjoyed reading it through twice, and when the person I loaned it to finally gives it back to me, I'll read it again. I don't do that to bad books.
Fair post and agree.
